GI Joe Would Have a Field Day: The Ave Maria Grotto


Take a good look at that picture above. Imagine this type of handcrafted-concrete-marble-glass-construction kitsch strewn across about 4 acres.

If this type of thing were done by your eccentric uncle in his backyard, people would call him a bit wacky. If you're the Catholic Church, however, you venerate the Benedictine monk who spent a lifetime doing this stuff and charge people $5 to come see it.

And people love it. It's called Jerusalem in Miniature.
